Does the material of a retail floor display actually affect how customers.

Honestly this is something I never thought about seriously until a visual merchandising consultant pointed it out during a store visit last year and now I cannot unsee it whenever I walk into any retail space. We run a small but fairly busy supermarket style setup in Abu Dhabi that stocks a mix of household goods and fast moving consumer products and for the longest time our promotional floor displays were just whatever we had available which usually meant old wooden pallets that were honestly not in great condition and did not exactly give off a clean professional impression. The consultant made the observation that the base your product sits on actually communicates something to the customer before they even look at the product itself and a worn dirty surface makes everything on top of it feel less appealing even if the product packaging is perfectly fine. That conversation pushed me to look into alternatives and after some research I came across crateco while browsing local supplier options in the UAE and their product range included a plastic display pallet that looked genuinely practical for retail floor use because it is clean, consistent in appearance, lightweight enough to reposition easily and does not absorb spills or odours the way wood does which has always been a quiet frustration in our current setup. What I want to know from people who have actually made this switch in a retail environment is whether customers respond any differently to displays that sit on clean modern bases compared to the traditional wooden ones and whether the investment translates into any noticeable difference in how long customers spend browsing a floor display. It might sound like a small detail but after that conversation I genuinely believe presentation at every level matters more than most retailers give it credit for.
