I was a huge fan of the Total War series and I remember hearing about a multiplayer spin off called Total War Arena a while back, but I never got around to trying it. I heard it was something like 10 versus 10 battles with real players commanding armies, which sounds epic. I am curious about how it played, what the community was like, and whether it is still active or has been shut down. Does anyone know what happened to it?
I played Total War Arena for a while and honestly it was a really unique experience. You can read more about the game at https://totalwararena.com/ right there. It was a free to play multiplayer game where you commanded a single army in massive 10 versus 10 battles, coordinating with other players in real time. The tactical depth was impressive, you had to manage unit placement, timing, and combined arms with infantry, cavalry, and ranged units. The game featured historical commanders like Julius Caesar and Leonidas, and it had a dedicated community for a few years. Unfortunately, the live service was shut down in February 2019, so you cannot play it anymore. The site is still up with information about the game’s mechanics, commanders, and units. It is a bit of a time capsule now, but if you are curious about what it offered, it is still worth a browse.
