Avoid scams, deal locally

MARKETPLACE SAFETY

Avoid scams. Deal locally.

Most marketplace transactions are safe when buyers and sellers meet locally, inspect the item, and use a payment method they understand. Slow down when someone pressures you or asks you to move money before meeting.

Never wire money to a stranger. Avoid Western Union, cashier’s checks, money orders, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or requests to pay a shipping agent.

Common warning signs

  • The buyer or seller refuses to meet in person.
  • Someone offers more than the asking price and asks you to refund the difference.
  • You are asked to pay before seeing or inspecting the item.
  • A third-party courier, escrow service, shipping company, or payment link is introduced unexpectedly.
  • The message creates unusual urgency or asks you to continue outside Fendies.
  • The offer sounds too good to be true.

Safer local transactions

  • Meet during daylight in a busy, public place.
  • Inspect and test the item before paying.
  • Bring another adult or tell someone where you are going.
  • Use cash or a trusted payment method only after inspecting the item.
  • Keep conversations on Fendies so suspicious activity can be reviewed.
  • Never share passwords, verification codes, banking details, or unnecessary personal information.

IF SOMETHING FEELS WRONG

Stop the transaction and protect yourself.
